The president will give a speech next week.

can’t stand sth: 受不了某事；无法忍受某事

to dislike something

Sylvia couldn’t stand the sight of blood.
Sylvia见不了血。

Jessie can’t stand waiting in line for more than ten minutes.
Jessie受不了排队超过10分钟。

terrified: 吓坏的，恐惧的

very frightened

I am terrified of spiders and other bugs.
我特别害怕蜘蛛和别的虫子。

cannot imagine sth: 无法想象某事；难以想象某事

have confidence in oneself: 对自己有信心

memorize: 熟记，背诵，记录

to learn something so that you will remember it exactly

My teacher said we need to memorize two poems and recite them to the class.
老师说我们要背诵两首诗歌，然后在全班同学面前朗诵。

Jim was not able to memorize the poem because his memory is so bad.
Jim记忆力不好，这首诗他背不下来。

Grammar

forget && remember

forget 与 remember 是一对反义词（antonym），后面都可以接 to do sth 和 doing sth，但是表示的意义却截然不同。

forget to do sth. 表示 “忘记做某事” （要做的事情未做，但是已忘记要去做）
forget doing sth. 表示 “忘记做过了某事” (事情做过了，但是忘记做过了)

remember to do sth. 表示 “记得要去做某事” （事情未做，但是有次打算）
remember doing sth. 表示 “记得曾经做过某事” （事情已做，且还记得）

  • I forgot to ask her for her address.
  • I forgot meeting him at the banquet last year.
  • Remember to bring Anna a gift for her party.
  • I remember lending you my study notes, right?
