Word Preparation

moving: 感人的；动人的

causing strong feeling of sadness or sympathy

The speech the president gave was very moving.
总统的讲话非常感人。

I couldn’t stop crying because the movie was so moving.
这部电影把我感动得泪流满面。

chamber: 会议室，会议厅

a room used for a special or official purpose

The meeting will be held in the president’s chamber.
会议将在主席会议厅召开。

No newspaper reporter will be allowed in the chamber during the meeting.
会议期间，任何报社记者不得进入会议厅。

a book lover: 爱书之人

a person who is very interested in books

There is a book club you can go to if you are a book lover.
如果你是个爱书之人，有个书友会你可以去参加一下。

I’m not really a book lover, but I do read books every now and then.
我算不上爱书之人，但偶尔也会看点书。

write off: 删掉；删减

to remove something from a written work

My editor wrote some stuff off my paper to make it better.
为了提升质量，编辑将我的文章进行了一点删减。

I think that if the writer had written the ending off, the story would have been better. （subjunctive mood）
我认为作者当时要是把故事的结尾删掉了，可能效果会比现在好。

worth reading: 值得一读

enjoyable to read

Harry Potter is a long book, but it is worth reading.

Grammar

sound like

sound like …，意思是 “听上去像 …；让人听着好像 …”，例如，
I want to know more about the story. I sounds like it’s worth reading.

  • Nick sounds like a nice guy.
  • It sounds like you had a good time on your trip.
