option：选择；可供选择的事物

choices one has in an event
“选择”是抽象的概念；“可选之物”是实体概念

He needs to think about all his options.
他得考虑下所有的选择。

Another option is to find a new job.
另外一种选择是找份新工作。

be picky about：挑剔

being hard to please

He’s very picky about food. It’s so hard to cook for him.
他对食物及其挑剔。给他做饭真不容易。

Stop being so picky about the music.

balanced diet：均衡饮食

eating a mixture of healthy foods

Eating a balanced food would keep you healthy.

Grammar

动词-ing形式做主语

在语法上，动词的现在分词(present participle)或者动名词(gerund)都是动词加-ing构成。当-ing形式做主语 (subject) 时，我们称之为动名词。

以下两段引文来自google字典

gerund n. a form that is derived from a verb but that functions as a noun, in English ending in -ing.
e.g., asking in do you mind my asking you?.

present participle: n. the form of a verb, ending in -ing in English, which is used in
1) forming continuous tenses, e.g. I’m thinking,
2) alone in nonfinite clauses, e.g. in sitting here, I haven’t a care in the world,
3) as a noun, e.g. in good thinking, and
4) as an adjective, e.g. in running water.

动词使用了-ing形式后，就变成了名词的含义，表示对应的动作或者事情，例如动词talk —> talking（表示说话这个动作），动词swim—> swimming (表示游泳这件事)，动词sleep—>sleeping（表示睡觉这个动作）；还可以是动词短语变成-ing形式，形成表示动作的名词短语，例如learn English —> learning English，play the piano —> playing the piano等。

无论是动名词还是动名词短语做主语，后面的谓语一律用单数。

Swimming is a great way to stay in shape.
Playing the piano is the passion of my life.
弹钢琴是我生活中最爱的事情。
Shopping online is very convenient because there are many choices at a good price.
